The Atlanta newspaper published recently the story of a local woman who actually survived the Holocaust. This is an amazing, moving story and of course reminds me of the story of Anne Frank except Anne did not survive. Ilse Eichner was one of 15000 Jewish children sent to the Terezin concentration camp and she was one of only 132 known to survive.
You can read the story on the web at ajcnews.com
The Survivor, Part 1 begins:
During World War II, Hitler’s army ordered a young Jewish girl named
Ilse Eichner Reiner to the Terezin concentration camp near Prague
before transferring her to Auschwitz-Birkenau. Of the 15,000 children
sent to Terezin, Reiner is one of only 132 known to have survived.
Today, Reiner lives in Sandy Springs near her daughter. This is her
journey.
