A couple of interesting Civil War sites have been in the news in Georgia lately. First, a nice 16 acre tract of Civil War history is available next to the Kennesaw National Battlefield Park in Cobb County, northwest of Atlanta. The state of Georgia just needs to come up with about $2.7 million to purchase this land from a private owner. Another site in the news recently was at one time a POW camp for Union soldiers near Savannah. When the Confederates learned that General Sherman was on his way from Atlanta, they quickly evacuated the camp, leaving behind rings, buckles, coins and other items that would remain undisturbed for 150 years.
