We really enjoyed the trip to the Shafer's lake house and pontoon boat ride on Lake Jackson, Saturday , June 8th - they invited the church family down and we had a great time !

Some Enchanted Evening With Emmet Cahill
My wife and I enjoyed hearing Emmet Cahill in concert Thursday night, March 21st at the Cultural Arts Center in Carrollton GA.
He with his pianist performed a flawless repertoire of Irish tunes, show tunes, classic tunes and Amazing Grace. The encore was "Danny Boy" of course.
This is the third performance to see him in four years, and I think it was the best ever!
His repertoire is below but I left off the opening song, "The Impossible Dream" from the Man of La Mancha

home improvements are where the heart is
We added to side tables and new lamps for the living room this week. the tables have electrical outlets and USB ports for charging phones, etc. Cindy picked these out and fit very nicely.

down memory lane with automobiles
We visited the Miles Through Time Automotive Museum this week and boy did it bring back the memories. Being born in the mid 1950's means that most of the cars on display were still around on the highways when I was a kid. The beautiful red Ford Falcon (1965) was one of those cars as our family owned a blue 1962 Ford Falcon, similar to the picture below.
Several stories come to my mind about this car. First, this car belonged to Mamaw and Papaw Rice and when we had a wreck in the mid -60s, they gave this car to our family to use. Second , the car had a manual transmission so that was a challenge to learn to drive and then there was the issue when it would not change gears unless you stopped. For whatever reason, my dad did not or could not get this issue repaired. I remember one afternoon, I was driving to school with friends in the car, and I did not want to stop and change the gear before turning left. I thought I could slow down enough that I would not have to change gears, and keep going, etc. Well it worked for me, but the town police did not agree, and said I was going too fast as I turned on the road. I don't think he gave a ticket but a stern warning.
Another story was that the metal floorboard had worn out in the back , and as we were leaving church to take several elderly ladies home, there was a big downpour. I think my dad was driving and he drove through a huge puddle in the road and water splashed all of us in the back seat. LOL That is still a funny memory!

Great to see one of Duke's freshmen "diaper dandies" have a big game. With Tyrese out of commission (ankle sprain) Jared McCain stepped up his game Saturday. Duke went on to win 80-56 over Charlotte.
