It is well with my soul

Our brass players at church played my arrangement of

last night at church.  

I opted out of playing and directed the nine member ensemble.  It sounded great and was a blessing especially after this past week at Berean.  We have many hurting families with deaths and sicknesses, more in one week than I can ever remember.  But God has taught us that "whatever our lot, it is well with our souls".  

Thanks to all the brass players for this special number.

Even though the anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg has come and gone, there is still more to learn, to read, to absorb.  Every day it seems I read something about how history was made 150 years ago. Even in Atlanta, they are preparing for the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Atlanta next year.  In Gettysburg they are still preparing for anniversary of Lincoln's Gettysburg Address in November.  I know I am ready to go back, there is so much to see.  I already have a list of things that I missed out doing while on vacation such as visiting the new Seminary Ridge Museum, as well as the museum and cyclorama at the National Park.  

CNN posted this nice article with photos and gives us a good history lesson on the battle. 

Gen. Robert E. Lee's soldiers on the first day of battle pushed Union troops through the town and onto hills and ridges that eventually played a large part in the battle's outcome.

"There was street fighting in the inside (of Gettysburg)," said Whitehill. "Throughout the town, a lot of people were shooting muskets out of windows."

Jennie Wade, while kneading dough, was fatally shot in the back on July 3, the only civilian casualty at Gettysburg. CLICK to read more.

As we approach the line of battle, I turned to my left and saw the NC reenactors and tourist approaching.  Awesome site! this was a very emotional moment for all of us that got to pay tribute to the memory of those who fought at Pickett's Charge on July 3, 1863!
