Home Alone this Christmas

We spent Christmas day "home alone" this year, watching "Home Alone 1 and 2" while decorating the tree and wrapping presents (and my wife cooking).  The grandkids are arriving this weekend so we will have a 2nd Christmas this year.

early Christmas for the Blackstocks

Christmas came early for the Blackstocks.  We bought the table runner in WI, made by Leah's grandmother. and bought the truck
at Hobby Lobby and Cindy added the lights to decorate the truck.
Backstory: Uncle Joel and his brother used to manage a Christmas Tree Farm for their mom and dad until it became too much  to handle!

Family Photo Sunday

This past Friday (Nov 1) our grandson Hudson turned 8!
Love the smile when he blew out all the candles !
I remember that we traveled to PA for his birth, but he came so many days late, that I had to leave Cindy there and travel back to GA to go to work.
Happy Birthday!

We picked up a couple treasures while on vacation in Wisconsin,
both hand made in America (WI)!
The wood burning of an eagle catching a fish
(the lady who sold this at the craft show made it in 2015)
and the fall wreath which was made by Leah's talented grandmother

does this bring back some memories

We stopped at Smokehouse BBQ at the top of Monteagle Mountain for lunch and they have many antiques throughout the place.  This old ringer washer really brings back memories to me!  Like me, how many others can say they got their hand stuck in one of these when they were kids?

Labor Day and hurricanes seem to go hand to hand in Florida

There seems to be a tradition of hurricanes and Labor Day over the years.  Once again this year , a hurricane name Dorian approached Florida and caused havoc.  My first memory of Florida hurricanes was in 1979.  From the map at left, you can see how Hurricane David passed by Jacksonville, just a few miles off the coast.  David stands out in my memory because we were in South Carolina for Labor Day weekend. We were trying to make it home before the hurricane hit, and that was a bad decision. Because we had a flat tire at 11 PM on I-95 just north of  Jacksonville. We did not realize the worst of the hurricane was passing by offshore at that very momemt. I had to change the flat in the blowing wind and rain!  The highway patrol parked his car to shine light so that I could see to change the tire!  Hurricane David would make official landfall just south of Savannah, Georgia. We ended up spending the night in our church and getting no sleep LOL     As you can see below, Hurricane Dorian came very close to Jacksonville again this week. There were several other Labor Day hurricane stories i could tell but this was the most memorable!  Josh was 18 months and Stephen was two months and we all survived Hurricane David!
