Just in case you haven't seen this by now, I just had to post this hilarious video. This couple live in a retirement home and were trying to use their webcam for the first time. She pressed "Capture" and actually recorded themselves and did not know it. Their daughter posted the video and now it has gone "viral" which means over 5,000,000 people have viewed it and it has been on just about everywhere on line such as msn.com and yahoo.com homepages.

I have always loved this monologue by Red Skelton. His program was a "must see" on Tuesday nights when I was a kid. His explanation of the Pledge Of Allegiance was broadcast in 1969. I have a record (45) of this somewhere in storage and used it when I taught 8th grade American History.

Civil War history in Georgia

A couple of interesting Civil War sites have been in the news in Georgia lately.  First, a nice 16 acre tract of Civil War history is available next to the Kennesaw National Battlefield Park in Cobb County, northwest of Atlanta. The state of Georgia just needs to come up with about $2.7 million to purchase this land from a private owner. The article centers on the quest of one man to try to convince the state to purchase this land.  It would be a great addition of acreage to the Battlefield Park.  Click to read more...

Another site in the news recently was at one time a POW camp for Union soldiers near Savannah.  When the Confederates learned that General Sherman was on his way from Atlanta, they quickly evacuated the camp, leaving behind rings, buckles, coins and other items that would remain undisturbed for 150 years.  Click to read more about Camp Lawton...
