Leah sent this cute photo Thursday night to let us know the girls were ready for Mam-ma (Cindy) to come visit. Natalie told Mam-ma that they were going to do "everything" with her this weekend.

Happy Birthday Rachel

Happy 30th birthday to our newest daughter (in-law) Rachel Frankin. One of our goals as a young parents was to bring up our sons with a desire to follow God and a desire to find God's mate for their lives. Now that our youngest son is married, we are happy that the last puzzle in our family circle is complete.

my acting debut

Four of us gents volunteered to help with the children's choir production at church by dressing up as the "Woods of Whoa" when the children presented "Kidnapped on I-Land" last Weds night. I think this outfit ranks up there with the yearbook photo from the early 1980's when I wore a diaper to school for "baby day" during spirit week. Cindy did an excellent costume job on me - dressing me up to be a "Weeping Willow Tree." I even remembered both of my lines! (That's "King Me First" standing behind me.)

Some things you remember just like they happened yesterday. This train ride in Scott, Arkansas, took place in the summer of 1978, and is one of those memories.

such beautiful eyes

All the photos we have seen of Sophia, our youngest grandchild, were with her sleeping until recently. Now we know she has really beautiful eyes, thanks to the photos Leah posted on her blog! Labor Day weekend, Mam-ma (Cindy) will get to see her in person for the first time and take a few more photos (just a few, I'm sure) of Sophia, Meredith and Natalie.

it's summer and the dog days of Duluth

Some of my favorite "life-size" dogs on display for "The Dog Days of Duluth":
"Buck" (2nd from left); "Dog-gone" (in cage with angel on his shoulder); and a doggie pirate.

We enjoyed Brielle's visit with us in Georgia at the end of July. I hope her mommy and daddy don't get mad at me, but I couldn't resist letting her play with my "matchbox size" collection of cars and trucks. She enjoyed placing them on my tummy and watching them roll down the "hill." At one point she even said, "I laugh too much!"

words to ponder

Recently our pastor mentioned that he preaches "sermons" (which require a response) and does not preach "messages." Here is a recap of some of the sermon notes from Pastor Sweatt at Berean Baptist Church:

Regarding spiritual discernment, Pastor began with the statement "Discernment can be improved" - Hebrews 5:11-14 - while also noting that the responsibility for correctly handling the Word of God rests with each believer - 2 Timothy 2:15. He reminded us that God's word (the Bible) is sufficient to thoroughly equip us - 2 Timothy 3:16,17.

"God changes you from the inside out." - Romans 12:1,2

"Stay where you are until God moves you. Don't be like those who move until God stops them!"

One of the most encouraging sermons can be heard at our church's website -look for the sermon titled "How to Survive the Summer Doldrums" (click to view Berean Baptist.org)

Last month as we prepared to move to our new home, our son's family in Wisconsin was doing the same. Leah sent this picture of Natalie and Meredith in their new kitchen, obviously taking a break from all the cleaning and painting, etc. Click this link view Leah's blog with pictures of their new home
